27th Volhynian Infantry Division is a phenomenon of Polish Underground State history. It was the biggest partisan unit of Polish Home Army (7 thousands of soldiers), which in a tight formation, passed the 600km (about 382miles) combat trail, fighting with Germans and hated units of Ukrainian Insurgent Army. Division’s soldiers, during six months operation, fought like Spartans - in total, losses in soldiers were as high as 42% of its initial strength. In July 1944, they were disarmed by the Red Army - they cried, when they had to lay down their weapons.
